Western Books on Asia: Japan
collection contains some 3 500 publications in western languages about Japan from the 16th century to the early 1940's. The collection consists of 13 000 microfices that are divided into 12 categories (see the list on the left):

Search by subject area
Click on a subject area in the 'Subject areas:' list to get a list of all publications on the chosen area. If you want to list all publications in the database, choose option 'List all'.

Search by phrase
Type a phrase in the 'Search word/phrase:' box and press the 'search' button to view a list of publications that contain the search phrase. You can type either the whole word, or just a part of the word. The phrase is checked in 'name', 'optional name', 'subject area', 'keyword', 'publisher', 'language', 'year', 'organization', 'publishing place' and 'authors' fields of the publication. If you want a list of all the publications, empty the phrase box and press 'search'.
